South Coast Air Quality
Management District Board

Recommendation to Qualify Vendors to Provide PC, LAN and WAN Replacement Parts and Repair Services

On May 15, 1995 the District released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for Personal Computer, Local Area Network and Wide Area Network Replacement Parts and Repair Services. The purpose of the RFP is to pre-qualify vendors capable of providing repair services and supplies for the District's personal computers and telecommunication operations.

In accordance with the District's Consultant Selection Policy and Procedure, a public notice inviting bids was published in the Los Angeles Times, L.A. Sentinel, La Opinion, Orange County Register, Riverside Press Enterprise, AQMD BBS, San Bernardino Sun, The M/W/DVBE Source, and RFP/Bid Information Line.

Copies of the RFP were mailed to forty-one bidders (Attachment A). Responses were received from two bidders, Microage Computermart and Mitsuba Corporation. Staff has completed the evaluation and selection process and has qualified these two bidders. Both bidders meet the minimum requirements identified in the RFP. Staff believes that these vendors will be able to provide about 80% of parts and repair services required in support of the District's personal computer infrastructure. Items not available from these two vendors will be acquired in accordance with the District's Administrative Policies and Procedures.

THEREFORE, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOUR BOARD

--Approve Microage Computermart and Mitsuba Corporation as qualified
vendors who will provide PC, LAN, WAN replacement parts and repair
services.

Respectfully,

James M. Lents, Ph.D.
