Recommendation to Qualify Vendors to Provide Library Services and Supplies

On May 15, 1995 the District released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for Library Services and Supplies. The purpose of this RFP is to pre-qualify vendors to provide various library services and supplies such as technical and legal books, miscellaneous book purchases and multi-media materials; subscription services, including periodical, legal book and miscellaneous subscriptions; and professional services, including cataloging, inter-library loan and loose leaf filing.

In accordance with the District's Consultant Selection Policy and Procedure, a public notice inviting bids was published in the Los Angeles Times, L.A. Sentinel, La Opinion, Orange County Register, Riverside Press Enterprise, AQMD BBS, San Bernardino Sun, The M/W/DVBE Source, and RFP/Bid Information Line.

Copies of the RFP were mailed to thirty-nine bidders (Attachment A). Responses were received from nine bidders. Staff has completed the evaluation and selection process and has qualified all nine bidders. All nine bidders meet the minimum requirements identified in the RFP. Staff believes that these vendors will be able to provide about 70% of the required Library services and supplies. Items not available from these nine vendors will be acquired in accordance with the District's Administrative Policies and Procedures.

THEREFORE, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOUR BOARD

--Approve the list of vendors found in Attachment B to provide the District
Library's services and supplies.

Respectfully,

James M. Lents, Ph.D.
