Summary

The Advisory Council discussed the AQMD’s plan to streamline its monitoring program and reduce the number of air monitoring stations throughout the Basin as well as the recently released Oxygenated Fuels Study by NAS/NRC, which concluded that the fuel additive methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) is unlikely to pose a substantial risk to humans. The Council also focused on the 1997 AQMP, especially the modeling assumptions forming the basis for control strategies. The Council’s Atmospheric Sciences Committee will be meeting further with staff on this issue to provide input into the 1997 AQMP prior to its presentation to the Governing Board in the fall. The Advisory Council approved its April 25, 1996, meeting minutes.
