BOARD MEETING DATE: February 9, 1996

AGENDA NO. 31

Proposal:

Issue a Request For Proposals for a Management Firm to Operate the Diamond Bar Headquarters Child Care Center

Synopsis:

On April 14, 1995, the Board awarded a bid to Bright Horizons Children's Centers, Inc., to manage and operate the child care center at the District's Headquarters facility. Bright Horizons notified the District on January 30, 1996 that it has decided to terminate the contract, and staff is requesting permission to develop a new Request For Proposal (RFP) and seek bids. Because the District was only notified on January 30, discussion leading up to development of RFP language will prevent the RFP from being provided with this Board letter. The RFP will instead be provided at the February Board meeting.

Committee:

This issue arose on January 30, 1996, after the Administrative Committee met.

Recommended Action:

Approve the release of a Request For Proposals for a new child care center management services firm.

Background

The District has been working with Bright Horizons Children's Center to resolve various issues relating to operation of the child care center. Since Bright Horizons has now notified the District of its intent to terminate its contract, staff believes an RFP should be promptly issued to attempt to ensure continuous operation of the child care center.

Proposal

Staff is preparing a Request For Proposals (RFP) to solicit bids for a new child care center management services firm to operate the District's child care center. The RFP will be provided at the February 9, 1996 Board meeting.
