Technology, September 27, 1996, Recommended for Approval
Recommended Action:

Background
On June 9, 1995, the Board approved the purchase of a Kewet El-Jet 3 electric vehicle from Green Motorworks of North Hollywood. This EV was to be tested for use as a "station car" between the AQMD office and the Walnut Metro-Link station. In that capacity, this EV was found to be adequate. However, for other trips in the Diamond Bar area the speed and range were limited, largely due to the local hills. After four months of service, Green Motorworks exchanged the El-Jet 3 for a higher-power El-Jet 4 model. This EV performed better than the El-Jet 3, but the speed and range were still limited. After five months, Green Motorworks proposed to buy the El-Jet 4 EV back for 75% of the original EV purchase price, which accounts for the depreciation of the two EVs used.
Proposal
Delete Vehicle No. 38574 from AQMDs equipment inventory as it is not required for public use.
Resource Impacts
Total cost of Vehicle No. 38574 was $22,097.09 which included the vehicle base cost of $18,995.00 plus state sales tax, shipping and duty, and document preparation fees. Green Motorworks would buy back Vehicle No. 38754 for 75% of the base cost, or $14,246.25. These funds would be returned to the AQMD General Fund, Clean Fuels account for expenditure in the future.
