BOARD MEETING DATE: November 5, 1999 AGENDA NO. 2
PROPOSAL:
Set Public Hearings December 10, 1999 to Consider Amendments and/or Adoption to AQMD Rules and Regulations
SYNOPSES:
- Rule 1121 - Control of Nitrogen Oxides from Residential-Type, Natural Gas-Fired Water Heaters: Proposed amendments would (1) lower the NOx emission limit to 20ng/J and 10ng/J by July 1, 2002 and January 1, 2005, respectively for new residential-type natural gas-fired water heaters less than 75,000 Btu per hour that are sold or installed in residential or commercial establishments; (2) allow water heater manufacturers to comply with either an output- or input-based emission standard which will provide compliance flexibility; and (3) make minor administrative changes. The rule will reduce NOx by 75% and achieve reductions of 7.2-8.3 tons per day at full implementation. (Review: Stationary source Committee on September 17, 1999 and October 15, 1999.)
- Rule 2506 - Area Source Credits: The proposed amendment to Rule 2506 will lower the emission rate from 450 lbs. NOx/1000 gallons to 291 lbs. NOx/1000 gallons for diesel-fired internal combustion engines. The amendment is based on source tests conducted on diesel-fired internal combustion engines and will lower the emission rate to calculate Area Source Credits from such engines. (Review: Stationary Source Committee on October 15, 1999.)
The complete text of the proposed amendments, staff reports and other supporting documents will be available no later than November 5, 1999, from the District’s Public Information Center, (909) 396-2550 and on the Internet (www.aqmd.gov).
