Executive Officer

Background

Since October 1999, Public Affairs has been utilizing the services of student interns from the Co-op Program of the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation. This program has been beneficial for both AQMD and the student interns. College students who are selected for the program have gained real-world work experience at the same time that they are earning academic credits for their college education. These interns perform such tasks as assisting staff at outreach events, staffing the Public Information Center, and maintaining and tracking the inventory of AQMD outreach material. The total amount of the present contract through June 30, 2004 is $50,000. It is estimated that $28,000 of student intern services will be needed in 2004-05. Because an amendment of this contract will cause the cumulative contract funding to exceed $50,000, Board approval of a new contract is requested.

Proposal

Execute a new contract with Cal Poly Pomona Foundation for Co-op Program Services in an amount not to exceed $28,000 through December 31, 2005.

Resource Impacts

Funding for outside services for student interns in an amount not to exceed $28,000 is included in the FY 2004-05 Budget.
