PROPOSAL:

Execute Contract for Student Co-op Program

SYNPOSIS:

Since August 1995, the AQMD has contracted with the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona Foundation for the services of student interns in the areas of Finance, Public Affairs and Science and Technology Advancement. The requested interns would assist staff with a variety of short-term compliance-related projects, while at the same time, gaining valuable real-world experience. It is estimated that $20,000 of student intern services in Engineering and Compliance will be needed for this calendar year. Adequate funding for this item has been included in the FY 2005-06 Budget.

RECOMMENDED ACTIONS:

Authorize the Chairman to execute a contract with Cal Poly Pomona Foundation, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $20,000 to provide services of student interns in Engineering and Compliance for calendar year 2006.

Background

Since August 1995, the AQMD has utilized student interns from the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona Foundation’s Co-op Program in the areas of Finance, Public Affairs and Science and Technology Advancement. This program has been mutually beneficial to both the AQMD and the student interns; providing AQMD with part time cost-effective resources that assist staff with a variety of projects, while at the same time providing the interns with real-world work experience. At this time AQMD is requesting a contract for services of student interns to assist staff in Engineering and Compliance with various compliance and permitting-related special projects including, but not limited to: the inputting and tracking of operational data, compiling statistical information, and other miscellaneous tasks as needed. The total amount of the contract through December 31, 2006 is $20,000.

Proposal

Execute a new contract with California State Polytechnic University, Pomona Foundation for Co-op program services for calendar year 2006 in an amount not to exceed $20,000.

Resource Impacts

Adequate funding for contracts for student intern services in an amount not to exceed $20,000 is included in the FY 2005-06 Budget.
