Barry R. Wallerstein, D.Env. Background The FY 2007-08 Budget, approved by the Board in May 2007, included the addition of a Director, Strategic Initiatives in Planning, Rule Development, and Area Sources. This Designated Deputy will have on-going responsibility for managing planning and rule development activities and will assist and participate in the implementation of the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB 32). The latter will include overseeing AQMD’s efforts to assist the state in the development of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory, conducting technology assessment for GHG control strategies, developing and evaluating GHG-related air quality policies, and representing AQMD’s efforts at various GHG stakeholder meetings and public hearings. Proposal This action is to amend AQMD’s Salary Resolution to establish the annual salary for Director, Strategic Initiatives at $141,149, a rate equivalent to that for Health Effects Officer. Resource Impacts Funds for this position exist in the current budget. Attachment
ATTACHMENT A RESOLUTION NO. 07- A Resolution of the South Coast Air Quality Management District Board amending AQMD’s Salary Resolution to establish the salary for the Director, Strategic Initiatives (Designated Deputy) at an annual pay rate of $141,149. WHEREAS, the Governing Board of the South Coast Air Quality Management District exercises its duty to establish compensation for its employees. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of the South Coast Air Quality Management District, State of California, in regular session assembled on September 7, 2007, does hereby amend AQMD’s Salary Resolution to establish the pay rate for the Director, Strategic Initiatives (Designated Deputy) at an annual salary of $141,149.
